Exploring Virtual Placewas a conference session Saturday, November 3, 10:15 a.m. (ET) at 2007 National Humanities Conference sponsored by the Federation of State Humanities Councils and hosted by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities in Williamsburg, VA. This session was an exploration of some virtual communities including: Wikipedia, YouTube, mySpace, and Second Life. The focus of the exploration attempted to be the same as that of a traditional exploration, to get the sense of the landscape, interact with the native population, and learn the rules of behavior that govern the cultures found there. We tried to discover what quality and types of humanities content exist in these communities and discuss what role humanities councils can play in these environments. We'd love your input What better way to organize handouts, bibliographies, additional resources than on a wiki, eh? This is a protected wiki, meaning that anyone can read posts and comment on the "discussion" tab, but editing and appending text can be done by group members. Would you like to join this group?
